The Valley Health System Celebrates Certified Nurses Day
Each year, March 19 is celebrated throughout the world as “Certified Nurses Day,” commemorating the birthday of Margretta "Gretta" Madden Styles, RN, EdD, FAAN, a leader in the field of nursing certification.
Within The Valley Health System, more than 230 registered nurses (RNs) have taken the extra step in their ongoing learning process to voluntarily earn and maintain the highest credentials within their specialty, whether it’s emergency nursing, critical care, perioperative nursing, obstetrics and other areas of care. These nurses represent 70 different professional certifications.
“I’m very proud of the nurses who have taken their education to the next level to meet the challenges of modern nursing practices,” said Karla Perez, Regional Vice President, Acute Care Division, Universal Health Services, who oversees all the hospitals, programs and services in the state of Nevada. “Their commitment to earning and maintaining these certifications to continually advance their skills and knowledge is invaluable to their patients, families and colleagues.”
In January 2025, Gallup announced that 76 percent of Americans consider nurses highly honest and ethical, once again making them the most trusted of 23 professions rated each year in Gallup’s annual survey. According to Press Ganey, the nursing profession has earned the highest rating since 1999, when Gallup added them to the survey, with the exception of 2001 when firefighters were ranked the highest in response to the September 11 attacks on the twin towers.
