Valley Health System Adds Three New Physician Graduate Medical Education Programs to its Consortium
The Valley Health System (VHS) Graduate Medical Education (GME) Consortium is pleased to announce the addition of three new residency programs with an additional 41 residents beginning their programs on July 1, 2023.
The programs include:
- Internal Medicine, accepting 20 residents each year
- Psychiatry, accepting eight new residents per year
- Transitional (one) Year program, accepting 13 new residents
All program spots have been filled and will re-open through ERAS for the 2024 opportunities. The new residency programs were approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Review Committees in April and will add 105 resident positions to the VHS Consortium. Once fully staffed, these new programs will contribute a total of 187 VHS residents among the following programs: Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and Transitional Year.
“The addition of these three new programs to our community are an important step in increasing both the number of physicians available to patients in our state and elevating the overall quality of care,” said Dr. Andy Eisen, Chief Academic Officer and GME Designated Institutional Official for The Valley Health System. “We’re incredibly proud of the tremendous team at VHS who have brought us to this point, and we’re excited about the opportunity to work with our many local partners to train more doctors to provide the best care to patients throughout Nevada.”
The Valley Health System will graduate its inaugural classes of eight Emergency Medicine physicians and three General Surgeons, and its second class of 10 Family Medicine physicians on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Red Rock Hotel & Casino. The next residency session for all new VHS GME residents begins June 26, 2023, with Orientation, and their first day of patient care is July 1, 2023. The VHS GME White Coat Ceremony for all incoming residents will be held June 30 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Summerlin Hospital.
