After Surgery, Home Health Makes a Difference
After a high school basketball injury, Kevy Mason-Armand knew she would eventually require a full knee replacement – and the time came in November 2023. Following her surgery at Valley Health Specialty Hospital, her physician ordered nursing and physical therapy services from Valley Health at Home by BAYADA.
“I had my first visit within 48 hours of being discharged from the hospital,” remembered Kevy. “And I was very impressed. My nurse, Lisa, was professional and efficient, but made sure to explain everything to me in detail – which I appreciated. Once the bandages came off, we realized that I had developed a wound around the surgical site. Lisa caught it early and coordinated with my doctor. She also helped me with dressing changes and a teaching session, so my husband could help manage in the future.”
As the former Director of Case Management at Valley Hospital, Kevy was very familiar with home health, but her personal experience as a patient changed her perceptions. Initially hesitant about how much she could achieve at home; she thought an outpatient setting might be better because of the equipment.
“I have a very different outlook after this experience,” said Kevy. “My PT, Don, was just fantastic! He was sensitive to the fact that I had a wound and was extremely creative in the ways that he worked with me. I was very impressed with the in-home exercises Don had me do – and they were very effective. He also gave me a lot of good information about what to expect, why I felt so tired, and typical recovery from knee replacement surgery. I very much enjoyed his approach and information sharing.”
“Given the opportunity to experience Valley Health at Home services, I can attest to the professionalism of the entire team, their courteous bedside manner, and their expertise. I called twice outside of regular hours with questions and concerns and received very prompt replies. The Valley Health at Home team provided valuable information which eased my anxieties and helped me avoid additional visits to the ER. I am very happy with the care I received.”
Kevy is doing well and has completely recovered from surgery.
